Lander Screen Before the Paint

Before the paint was opened, this screen was flawless. As you can see in the image below, it got ugly soon after. I was eager and hardly neat. But it’s okay because what’s new was never mine- so I feel nothing really shines like the old things. Enjoy old things recorded at the Oyster Ridge Music Festival in Kemmerer Wyoming 2006.

Lander Art - Gold Leaves Curl

In the process of screen printing our merchandise, I stopped to look at the screen in the light. What you’re seeing is a piece of art by Lander that I call gold leaves curl. The screens themselves were caked with paint from the tshirts. The overlapping of colors and stencils made for a great collage. I thought they were such cool images and colors that I smashed them together and brought them here. Take a walk, enjoy the art and listen to the complimentary music as you browse.

Lander at the Sanford Wedding

It is not often that Lander rocks a wedding, but we recently made an exception for a special couple. Three years ago, a young couple showed up to one of the very first Rhetoric Tuesday shows (before Lander). The show must have been amazing because years later we were asked to play at their wedding. It was an honor to play at their first date and on their wedding day. The Sanford’s have been a great support system and we congratulate them on their marriage!

Lander Performs “Clarity” at the Doug Fir Lounge PDX

Clarity at Doug Fir

Here is a clip of Lander at the Doug Fir Lounge PDX performing a rare Clarity 07.25.06. The song is about the Apocalypse and a dream I had (your seeing the ending). Sweet dreams.

As I sift through the Lander videos, I’m going to start posting as much film as possible. Since we use a tiny digital camera the quality of sound and image is usual suspect- but enjoy nonetheless. All videos will be played on youtube.com

Explaining “Popo Agie”

Enjoy Lander site

As most of you know, the name Lander comes from Lander, WY- the place of my birth. There is a tiny river that runs down the length of the Lander valley. This river is a large source of memory for me- the river is called Popo Agie. The name Popo Agie (pronounced Po-Po Zshuh) comes from the Crow Indians and means “Tall Grass River.” “Agie”means river in the Crow language and “PoPo” means tall grass or tall rye grass. The Crow named the river this because of the tall bunches of rye grass that grew along the banks of the river in the valley.

Popo Agie River WY

After having visited New York City and Salt Lake City all within the month of August, I was reminded of my childhood in Lander and how crisp and clean the western air is and how clean the waters flow. Utah was beautiful and brought me back to a simpler place in time. -New York was once a place like Popo Agie but that time is gone. I would call this song more of a mind-set than subject matter.

Running down the crooked miles,
I could feel the muscles tire.
I could bend my tongue and sing the words of pioneers
Coming up between my teeth.
-All at once their melodies turned to fields of industry.

LANDER NEWS
10.01.06

It seems forever since the last Lander update. We’ve been busy traveling, writing and playing a few local shows.
Most recently we played at the Washington State (Vancouver) Battle of the Bands. The students were great and the Chancellor was very welcoming. We’ll be going back to WSU Vancouver very soon for another appearance! We’ll keep you posted on all dates!

On Monday, September 25 we flew down to San Jose, California for a guest appearance at the SumTotal Network Convention. Thank you Chris and Katherine for lining up such a wonderful evening and thank you Fairmont Hotels for the lovely service and crew! Nice people. As for Mr. Patron, we hate you.
