Monday and a Mountain

I was born on a Monday
In the thickening snow
So, it’s safe to say that hard work
Is a habit that lives in my bones.
But, there are times when it seems
A million miles to go
And I know that I’m not alone.
Monday and a starting line–
Monday and a mountain to climb.

It’s like when Mamma was a girl
With a red-letter chest
And Pappa was a teenage father
Who would never know rest.
No rest.
Yeah, they were in love
(But the world had expensive style)
So, they sold the keys to the car
Cause the cash would let them breathe for a while…
But just a weekend-while because
Monday is like a bank robbed blind–
Monday and a mountain to climb.
Monday is a fruitless rind–
Monday and a mountain to climb.

Now, every time I look to find
There is a Monday and Mountain to climb
(And I don’t know if my legs are going to follow my feet),
I’m reminded there’s a fighter that resides in my heart
And he’s been knocking out years,
In the face of defeat,
And that’s a lovely little victory.

There is a girl with a smile
That could light up a room
But, she lives for the weekend,
Just to find that it flies by too soon.
So, she holds on to Friday
(Like it’s the last of its kind)
And, in the blink of an eye,
Her Saturday is a Sunday night.
Damn Sunday night.
Monday after a weekend of wine–
Monday and a mountain to climb.
Monday and a struggle to shine–
Monday and a mountain to climb.
