For the first episode of my Soldier for the Muse Sessions, I will be recording a Best of Rhetoric Tuesday live album. I feel like that’s a lot of words that need to be explained.
First, the Soldier for the Muse Sessions is a big project I’ve launched this year, where I’m recording a live version of each of my albums; all the songs from all the years. I’m inviting Portlanders to attend the recording sessions in person, and I’m inviting elsewhere-ers to stream the recording sessions online.
And because I’m tackling the albums in chronological order, that means my oldest material comes first. Cue Rhetoric Tuesday, my first band. We recorded The Low Ceiling in 2002. Two years later, we recorded a never-released album called The Moose Lodge Sessions. To be completely honest, there’s too much material to record it all in this single session; however, I picked the best twelve songs from 2002–2004 to compile a special Best of Rhetoric Tuesday live album.
This is definitely a younger sound, but it’s fun to re-live my growth. If you like what you hear, I hope you’ll consider coming to the show (if you’re in Portland) or streaming it online (if you live somewhere else). Either way, The Low Ceiling is an album that I’ll always cherish, and it’s available for listening on all major platforms. Enjoy!
